Pulled pork and potato casserole – a hearty dish for the whole family

Needed:

For the casserole:

  • 800 g potatoes
  • 500 g pulled pork (already cooked or boiled)
  • 1 large onion
  • 2–3 cloves of garlic
  • 200 g grated hard cheese
  • 200 ml cream (30–35%) or sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons oil or butter for greasing the dish
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • a handful of chopped parsley or spring onions

If you cook the pork yourself:

  • about 1 kg pork shoulder
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic granules
  • a pinch of pepper
  • 100 ml water or broth

Preparation:

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices. If you want a softer casserole, boil the potatoes in salted water for 5–7 minutes and drain.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, sauté the chopped onion, add garlic. Add the pulled pork, season with smoked paprika, pepper, and if needed, a little salt. Heat for a few minutes.
  3. Grease the baking dish with butter or oil. Place a layer of potatoes, then the pork on top, then potatoes again. Pour cream or sour cream over, sprinkle with grated cheese.
  4. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 °C for about 35–45 minutes until the potatoes are soft and the top is nicely browned.
  5. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with fresh herbs. Goes perfectly with pickled cucumbers, cabbage salad, or fresh vegetable salad.
