Regular fiber intake is associated not only with better digestion. It may help reduce the risk of constipation, obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and some other health disorders.

However, more is not always better. If a person is not used to a high fiber intake, suddenly eating a lot of oatmeal flakes may cause bloating, abdominal pain, or changes in bowel movements. Therefore, it is advised to increase fiber intake gradually.

It is also important to drink enough fluids. Fiber absorbs water, so when eating a lot of whole grain products, one should ensure an adequate amount of fluids.

People with celiac disease should be more cautious when choosing oat products. Although oats themselves do not contain as much gluten as wheat or rye, during processing they may become contaminated with other gluten-containing grains. In such cases, it is safer to choose clearly labeled gluten-free oat products.

One of the simplest ways to include oatmeal flakes in the daily diet is porridge. For one serving, you can use about four tablespoons of fine oatmeal flakes, 250 ml of milk, plant-based drink, or water, and a pinch of salt. The porridge can be flavored with fruits, nuts, cinnamon, or a little honey.
