M. Orusalu, now working as a nutrition specialist, found a solution and is herself living proof of what gives long-term results. “I don’t like short-term solutions,” she emphasizes.

“Everyone can enjoy life, eat healthily, and behave in a way that prevents weight gain. It’s easier than you think, and contrary to common belief. I have maintained a weight suitable for me for many years, and I have absolutely no willpower,” the woman insisted.

Let’s list unpopular facts in order:

  • Willpower does not help to lose weight, no one can fight themselves without rest.

  • People think that by dieting they experience failure. This is not true! Diets are designed to ruin you!

  • No temporary solution works.

  • The more stress you put on yourself trying to lose weight, the more weight your body will gain due to the effect of stress hormones.

  • It is possible to lose weight and maintain the desired weight, but it works completely differently.

  • “I eat bread, sweets, and other tasty things and do it in a way that I don’t gain weight,” confirms Marina.

  • There are many tricks and knowledge that have a greater impact on weight gain and loss than the amount of food and calories.

Personal story

M. Orusalu herself went through a relatively difficult story with nutrition consultations. “About fifteen years ago, I weighed thirty kilograms more than now. I am short. I stepped on the scales and saw that I weighed eighty-eight kilograms.

For some reason, this number was so important to me that I no longer dared to step on the scales. There was also a psychological side – self-hatred. I was diagnosed with second-degree obesity. This is purely a medical term indicating how much overweight you have compared to normal weight. There are three degrees of obesity, and my condition was relatively bad,” the woman revealed.

At that moment, M. Orusalu realized it was time to see a doctor because the excess weight was already posing a real threat to health.

What was this danger?

Today, says the nutrition specialist, it is all the medical risks associated with true overweight: vascular diseases, heart diseases, and many others.

According to her, it is very important to emphasize that overweight is not a cosmetic problem but a serious health threat.

“Yes, that’s right. I’m not saying everyone has to lose weight or be in good physical shape, but I would warn against an overly positive attitude towards your body. How good is that?

As long as we just enjoy ourselves, accept ourselves as we are, everything is fine. But if, compared to normal weight, you have 13 kilograms of excess weight, it is hard to live in such a condition. You sleep poorly, all medical parameters and test results are bad, then it is really hard to look at your body positively.

Well, that is the most critical moment – then weight loss is no longer a fun project when you want to slim down for summer. Then you need to lose weight because it already poses a real health threat,” the woman insisted.

Fat can accumulate in various places, and the most dangerous are visceral fats. These are fats located around or inside our organs. For example, a good example is the liver – fatty liver.

And indeed, the nutrition specialist pointed out, a woman with a high percentage of visceral fat may not even look overweight!

How did she unnoticedly gain 30 kg?

“There is not just one reason. Eating poorly for a week is not the path to obesity – it doesn’t work that way,” explained M. Orusalu.

The worst, according to her, is the diet culture, widely spread and affecting everyone: “Many women, like me, have had a constant battle with food and their body. No matter what you eat or do, you are never satisfied with your body!

Even when everything is actually fine, you don’t have extra kilograms and test results are good, you are still not satisfied. The woman still notices that her belly is a bit protruding, there is some cellulite somewhere, legs are not as slim as they should be.”

Normalization of diets?

Fortunately, M. Orusalu claims that gradually everything is changing. “Earlier, when I suffered from an eating disorder, there were only slim body models everywhere, but now we see models whose body shapes are not perfect.

I don’t think women are free from any pressure. There is still an attitude that if you weigh more than forty-five kilograms, something is wrong with you,” the woman caricatured.

What does a diet do to the body?

Well, the stricter the diet, the bigger the drop. “In this way, those two kilograms you are not satisfied with will soon become four, six, eight, ten extra kilograms.

Every time you lose weight, it is gained back and the fat percentage increases. I myself gained all those 30 kilograms using this method – constantly dieting!” the woman who has now become a nutrition specialist insisted.

And here the person starts blaming themselves, she insists: “You think – I have no willpower. I am wrong, not the diet. At that time, the person does not understand, does not criticize the method. For example, that they chose the wrong diet, but the worst is that they start thinking badly about themselves. Because someone advertises those diets and claims they should work for others. But no one talks about the fact that the result lasts only a short time.”

According to M. Orusalu, this is where the classic judgment comes from: “I have no willpower!” Although we fail to implement a project that is designed to fail. A diet cannot end otherwise, especially such a diet.

You can end up in the hospital or experience failure – you really have no other options. All parts of this vicious circle are pre-programmed. The exception applies only when a diet is prescribed by a doctor with a specific short-term goal related to the treatment of a certain diagnosis or condition.”

According to M. Orusalu, diets are forms of radical self-torture and this also has a cost: “Even if the body looks slim, you are wasting your nerve cells, eating brain cells, constantly experiencing high psychological pressure, losing hair, nails and libido weaken… Maybe you took a measure that you thought would help you lose weight, but in fact, it is a method of weight gain.”

It will come back with a bang

M. Orusalu is convinced that the fate of all radical diets is the same – the weight will come back with a bang: “Yes, you could say that. If you follow very strict diets, if you give up all tasty and pleasant things, it will come back with a bang.

My eating disorder was also a consequence of that. At first, I had no extra weight, but I was not satisfied with my body! I thought I had to be even slimmer. At that time, I had no understanding, no knowledge, and then I thought – I will stop eating! Great idea, food is my enemy.

And then I ate salads and chicken from morning till night. But the body needs more, it resists. You starve for a few days, then the appetite is so big that you eat chicken, and then a pack of cookies. Then you blame yourself and think: “Help, I need to control myself even more!” You take away even more necessary nutrients from the body and, of course, sooner or later the body asks for what it did not get.”

So, what to do instead of dieting?

M. Orusalu insists that today diets are called more fancy – nutrition plans, but according to her – it changes nothing, she opposes that too. “Yes, a nutrition plan can be made exactly according to a person’s wishes and goals – from morning to night you follow the plan, carry your food everywhere, do not eat anything from anywhere else, then you lose weight. For me, it is still a temporary solution.

Okay, theoretically I can make this menu for you. But someone has to prepare the food.

And what happens when this nutrition plan ends? Well, let’s say you lose weight, what next? You cannot live the rest of your life relying on diets. I want to achieve long-term results,” the woman explained.

What gives long-term results?

“The long-term result is that even if there is no dietitian next to you, and in front of you is a nutrition plan, you will still have learned the basic truths on which you can live healthily and rely on your knowledge in any situation,” M. Orusalu explained.

Whether you go to a restaurant in the evening, to a friend’s birthday, or vacation in a hotel with “all inclusive” – everywhere, according to the woman, you can choose such food to maintain your weight or, if necessary, lose it, whatever your goal is. It is completely possible and not even difficult.

M. Orusalu claims that it took her 5 years to lose 30 kg. This path continued with small ups and downs: “And you know, this process does not end when you reach a certain weight. I know I will watch what I eat, how much I eat, how I feel about myself all my life. It is not limited only to what is on my plate.”
