“If something happens, we must be able to destroy them here, because in Ukraine we see – as soon as we give up land, it is practically impossible to regain it,” said Colonel Andris Riekstas, responsible for the Baltic defense line project.

He noted that in modern warfare, not only defense against drone and missile attacks is important, but also ground control.

In addition to “dragon’s teeth,” anti-tank ditches are also planned to be installed in the future.

The Latvian border with Russia and Belarus is about 450 kilometers long in total. This year, the National Armed Forces plan to install more than eight kilometers of movement-stopping infrastructure.

The Baltic defense line project is being implemented in cooperation with Lithuania, Estonia, and Poland. The project started about two years ago, and all planned works are expected to be completed by 2028.
