As two dates significant for freedom approach – the Baltic Way and Ukraine’s Independence Day – the organizers invite not only to remember history but also to become its continuators. The hike is organized by the charity and support fund “Angels of Light,” and hiking organizers “TrenkTuras” and “Trail Masters.” It is expected that about 4 thousand people will participate in the first hike, whose steps will turn into real help for Ukraine’s defenders and civilians affected by the war.
All funds collected during the event will be allocated to cars, medical supplies, and equipment that help save lives daily in Ukraine. Generators, “Starlink” communication systems, and “EcoFlow” power stations will also be purchased – equipment that becomes extremely important as winter approaches, when Russia systematically attacks Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
“Freedom is not self-evident. Lithuania knows this better than many other countries. Today we have the opportunity to show that the spirit of the Baltic Way is still alive – not only by remembering history but also by helping those who are fighting for their freedom now,” says Aldėja Kuralavičiūtė, director of the “Angels of Light” foundation.
According to her, although the war has been going on for more than four years, the need for help has not diminished at all.
“The war has become a daily routine in the news feed, but in Ukraine, it has not stopped for a single day. Every week we receive new requests for cars, medical supplies, generators, or communication equipment. The upcoming winter will be another test, so we must prepare for it now. I believe that the spirit of community is still alive in Lithuania and that this hike will become another proof that we are not indifferent,” says A. Kuralavičiūtė.

The foundation’s director emphasizes that this event is not just another sports event or competition. It is a civic initiative, inviting to remember that freedom requires not only words but also actions. The symbolically chosen date unites two nations fighting for the right to be free – August 23rd, commemorating Baltic Way Day, and August 24th, celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Hike participants will not only be able to complete the chosen route but also view an exhibition of authentic trophies from the Ukrainian front. It will remind them that the war is not happening on the pages of history, but today – a few hundred kilometers from Lithuania.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, volunteers from the “Angels of Light” foundation have consistently provided support to Ukraine. In more than four years, they have delivered over 80 vehicles and over 800 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine – from medical supplies, communication and energy equipment to essential supplies for soldiers and medics. Volunteers constantly cooperate with Ukrainian military units, medics, and humanitarian organizations, so aid quickly reaches those who need it most.
The organizers invite everyone to join the hike – families, groups of friends, collectives, and anyone for whom freedom is not just a history textbook topic. Sometimes one person’s step may seem small, but thousands of people walking together can buy a car, equip medics with vital equipment, or help prepare for another difficult Ukrainian winter.
