The minister speculated that the upcoming winter might be V. Putin’s last hope to try and break Ukraine.
“This means that Russia is running out of resources. This winter could be Putin’s last hope to break Ukraine. And it is most in our interest that Ukraine not only survives but also wins this war,” R. Sikorski emphasized.
According to him, V. Putin will eventually face defeat.
Inciting Ukrainians and Poles
The diplomat also mentioned that V. Putin is trying to pit Warsaw and Kyiv against each other. He emphasized that the Kremlin leader is pushing forward, continuing bombardments, and it is he who is the enemy of both Poland and Ukraine.
According to him, Moscow has been using the Polish-Ukrainian confrontation for centuries to achieve its geopolitical interests.
“Every time in history, starting from the 17th century, Russian agents turned us against Ukrainians. We cannot be geopolitical naive and fail to understand this logic,” R. Sikorski stated.

Warned about provocations
Like Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas, the head of Polish diplomacy warned that Russia could undertake provocations against NATO bloc countries, including Poland.
R. Sikorski does not rule out the possibility that the Kremlin could conduct hybrid operations, but emphasized that a public warning about such scenarios reduces the likelihood of provocations being successful.
A week ago, the minister stated that Russia likely lacks the resources for a military offensive against Poland. He also noted that Russia might be preparing a “false flag” operation using Ukrainian drones.
“A Criminal Mistake”
Separately, the Polish Foreign Minister commented on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to him, nothing can be resolved in a 37-minute meeting.
“Ultimately, I see no possibilities for cooperation, because Putin would have to reduce his ambitions for seizing Ukraine. He should realize that this war was a criminal mistake. But, apparently, that will not happen,” he noted.
