Due to serious doubts and in order to establish the identities and citizenships of the foreigners, the border guards took them to the service premises of the Vilnius Airport border post.
During the inspection of persons and belongings, both passengers were found to have identity cards of Moroccan citizens aged 20 and 23. The men admitted that these were their documents.
During the initial questioning, the Moroccans provided no information, only repeatedly stating their intention to fly to France. They could not or did not want to explain when and how they arrived in Lithuania. However, VSAT officers established that these migrants came to our country from Latvia, which they entered illegally by crossing its state border from Belarus.
On their mobile phones, the Moroccan citizens had digital tickets purchased in their own names for the flight to Paris.

Passengers flying on intra-EU flights are usually not checked, but border guards carry out selective checks based on profiling according to risk factors.
The Moroccans were detained for 48 hours and handed over the same day to the officers of the Foreigners Registration Center in Pabradė (Švenčionys district).
The illegal migrants who traveled via the so-called Latvian route and were detained are returned by Lithuanian border guards to their Latvian colleagues after the necessary procedures are completed.
