In the case of burning parcels, the suspect who became a witness claimed to condemn terrorism

Charges have been brought against Lithuanian citizen Aleksandras Šuranovas, Ukrainian citizens Vadym Borsuk and Vasilij Kovač, Daniil Jencius who holds dual Russian and Lithuanian citizenship, and Russian citizen Eldar Salmanov for incendiary devices sent abroad via courier services.

They are accused of a terrorist act and participation in an organized terrorist group whose goal is to commit terrorist crimes. Their ages range from 23 to 69 years.

On Thursday, the first to be questioned was Aleksandras Kacersas, who lives in Latvia.

He said that in July 2024 he intended to travel to Lithuania when Andrejus Baburovas called from Saint Petersburg and asked him to pick up a parcel from the bus Chisinau–Riga. He said the parcel contained a pillow that was very comfortable to sleep on.

However, A. Kacersas said he could not do it because he was traveling to Lithuania, so he asked his son Artiomas to pick up the parcel at the station. He did so. Later, the parcel was handed over to the father. The next day, on July 14, A. Kacersas handed the parcel to a stranger who arrived. It later turned out that this was V. Borsuk, who came with his uncle V. Kovač.

The witness said he served on a Soviet submarine and was an officer. A. Baburovas was also an officer on another submarine.

“When I ended up in Vilnius prison, I realized that A. Baburovas had set me up,” said A. Kacersas.

He confessed everything, helped the investigation, so he went from suspect to witness and was exempted from criminal liability.

“I condemn terrorism, it must be fought,” A. Kacersas said in court.

Then A. Kacersas’s wife Julija Puzirjova was questioned.

“He was deceived and exploited,” the woman said about her husband.

A courier company employee who was questioned recognized A. Šuranovas. According to the woman, he sent parcels that later caused fires. He divided the contents of the brought boxes into two parcels.

Another courier company employee and a Belarusian renting apartments in Vilnius were also questioned. The man, who has lived in Lithuania for more than five years, needed the help of an interpreter.
