“A very good day – everything was really great, there were no incidents, but it was very challenging. The day demanded maximum dedication both physically and emotionally. The first two hundred kilometers were out of this world, and the second part of the track was about speed. We climbed to three kilometers high, where it felt like there was a lack of power. This has never happened in my life,” said A. Kanopkinas upon reaching the bivouac, adding that he is glad his body still withstands such challenges, although his neck is starting to hurt.

Antanas Kanopkinas completed the second and third stages fastest among quads and received medals from the rally raid championship organizers on both days.

On Thursday, athletes will face the fourth stage, during which participants and team members will return from San Rafael to San Juan. Athletes will have to cover a 306-kilometer stage and more than 340 kilometers of transfers. Organizers predict a very fast stage – up to 90 percent of the track will be hard ground, but the remaining sections will have stones and places where the equipment must be carefully protected.

Another serious challenge will be the altitude. The fourth stage will run through the mountains, with the highest point of the track reaching more than 3100 meters above sea level. After the third stage, A. Kanopkinas already reported feeling how the thinning air reduces the power of the equipment and requires extra effort from the athletes – now the track will climb even higher. Organizers also note that this day will be very long – athletes will spend almost the entire day on the road, so the most important thing will be not only to maintain speed but also to avoid mistakes and preserve the equipment before the last day of the rally.
