Although 10–15 minutes is a good guideline, you should not follow it blindly. Salmon pieces can vary in thickness, so it is much more important to watch the fish itself.
“BBC Good Food” states that cooked salmon should become opaque, and when pressed with a fork, its flesh should easily separate into layers.
If the center of the fish is still completely translucent, it may need a few more minutes.

However, you should not wait until the salmon becomes completely dry and starts to crumble heavily. It is precisely overcooking that often spoils its texture.
What to do before putting it in the oven?
Pat the salmon fillet dry with a paper towel, brush it with a little olive oil or butter, and season with salt and pepper.
Lemon, dill, garlic, various herbs, or favorite spices go well with salmon.
Place the salmon in the baking dish skin-side down if the fillet has skin.
Bake covered or uncovered?
The choice here depends on the desired result.
“BBC Good Food” suggests covering the salmon dish if you want the fish to be softer and juicier. If you want its surface to brown a bit, bake it uncovered.
If you are baking salmon with lemon and herbs, you can simply cover it with baking paper or foil – this will keep more moisture inside.
