“With great sadness and pain, we received the news about Teresa Sokolowska, co-founder and longtime vice president of the Lithuanian Polish Schools Association “Macierz Szkolna”, Polish language teacher, director of Ludvinavas primary school, active public figure, has passed away.

For her work in education and efforts to nurture Polish identity in Lithuania, she was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the medal of the National Education Commission,” the statement says.
As stated, T. Sokolowska was not only a respected teacher but also a person of exceptional intellect and sensitivity: “She was an educator deeply devoted to the causes of education, culture, and the nurturing of Polish traditions in Vilnius. A person with a big heart, dedicated to preserving Polish identity in Lithuania.”

The works of this educator in creating the mentioned association, to which she devoted much effort and work, are also emphasized.
T. Sokolowska headed the Vilnius Liudvinavas secondary school. It was closed in 2011, being merged with Lazdynai secondary school.
