What are basophils?
Basophils are white blood cells belonging to granulocytes. They are called granulocytes because they contain small granules inside – particles that store biologically active substances. Basophils are formed in the bone marrow, then enter the bloodstream and participate in immune system reactions. They are the rarest type of leukocytes, usually present in the blood in smaller numbers than other white blood cells.
