“Sitting there with glued eyelashes, barely lifting those eyelashes and then everything gets mixed up, where eyelashes should be for the red carpet, they sit at the checkout with them… On the other hand, you can’t blame them, maybe their lifelong dream is to look at pictures and where else can she go according to her education? She can only sit at that checkout with glued eyelashes and imagine that she is a star, this is a person’s choice, but still… It’s strange that it got so mixed up, the cashier wants to be an actress, and the actress wants to hide and not wear makeup at all,” J. Statkevičius said earlier.
Representatives of “Maxima” responded
The portal Žmonės.lt contacted representatives of “Maxima” – the situation was commented on by Ernesta Vareikytė, head of the retail network’s media relations.
“Every person, regardless of their job or appearance, deserves respectful communication. Demeaning remarks about our colleagues are unacceptable to us,” E. Vareikytė said in a comment sent to Žmonės.lt.

Noticed by the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation – LPSK
On the social network “Facebook,” the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation – LPSK published a post addressing the thoughts expressed by J. Statkevičius on the LRT show “Lipt stogais su Jurga.”
They also published a freeze-frame from the interview showing J. Statkevičius with the word “Shame!” written in red.
“Where else can she go with such education? She can only sit at the checkout with those glued eyelashes and imagine she is a star.” This is how Juozas Statkevičius, considered an icon of the Lithuanian fashion world and style, publicly mocks “Maxima” cashiers on LRT.
Cashiers do hard, stressful, and often invisible work. For a salary that often barely exceeds the minimum. And without them, as well as thousands of other employees, our daily life would simply stop. And no one knows where life will lead tomorrow. Perhaps one day, the one who mocks another today will have to do such work!
Probably, true style begins with respect for a person – regardless of what job they do, how they look, or how much they earn. And from now on, we will publicize cases when employees or their groups are demeaned in the public space. It doesn’t matter who behaves this way – employer, politician, opinion leader, or “star”.
