„To make one of the favorite fruits more accessible and cheaper, this week we applied a very low price to bananas. We strive to offer attractive prices for other fresh, quality products as well, while keeping in mind that customers’ needs vary greatly. Some cook more at home, others plan a weekend grill, trip, or treats, and others want to stock up on longer-lasting products. Therefore, we have prepared various promotions and special offers so that everyone can find relevant products and pay less for their shopping basket,” says Gintarė Kitovė, Communications Manager of the retail chain „Iki“.

Bananas per kilogram – only 0.55 Eur: what to do if you bought more?
When the price of a favorite product is very attractive, you can buy more – from August 13 to 16, the price of a kilogram of „Bon Via“ bananas at „Iki“ is only 0.55 Eur. „Iki“ culinary chef Jolita Tamoševičienė reminds that bananas at different ripeness levels are suitable for different dishes, so using even a larger bunch is not difficult.
„Firmer, not fully ripe bananas hold their shape better, so they can be fried in a pan or grilled and paired even with savory dishes. Ripe but still firm bananas are perfect for eating fresh or enhancing breakfast. Soft and sweet ones are great for pancakes, muffins, and other baked goods. If you have more bananas, ripe ones can be peeled, sliced, and frozen – later they are perfect for smoothies or homemade ice cream,” advises J. Tamoševičienė.
According to her, it is easy to make simple breakfasts from bananas, and just a few extra ingredients can elevate classic banana pancakes to a whole new level.
„Mash one well-ripened banana with a fork, mix with an egg and a few tablespoons of oatmeal. Season with cinnamon, cardamom, and grated orange peel. Fry small pancakes and serve with Greek yogurt and chopped pistachios – spices, citrus, and nuts will add more flavor and texture to a familiar dish,” says J. Tamoševičienė.
Versatile pork loin – from steaks to Asian flavors
Pork loin is leaner, mild in flavor, and versatile, so it is easy to adapt it to various dishes – from juicy steaks to Asian dishes, stews, or fillings. Therefore, it is easy to experiment with it in the kitchen and prepare the same product differently each time. This week there is also a great opportunity for that – a 53% discount is applied to a kilogram of pork loin at „Iki“, so it will cost only 2.99 Eur. J. Tamoševičienė shares a few tricks to help prepare it even tastier.
„When marinating loin, it is not necessary to keep it in the marinade all night – especially if it contains a lot of lemon juice, vinegar, or other acids. Prolonged exposure to a strongly acidic marinade can give the meat’s surface an undesirable texture, so shorter marinating is often enough for thinner loin steaks. Another trick is to make shallow cuts in several places on the edges of thicker steaks to cut through fat and connective tissue strips, if present. This way, the meat curls less while cooking and lies more evenly on the pan,” advises J. Tamoševičienė.
A fresh cucumber garnish will go perfectly with pork. Until August 16, the price of a kilogram of Lithuanian short-fruited cucumbers at „Iki“ is 1.55 Eur, so you can buy more – both to eat fresh and to ferment or pickle.
Big discounts – not just for the dining table
This week, you can also take care of your pets more affordably. From August 10 to 23, „Iki“ is holding the „Animal Fiesta“, during which there are many discounts on dog and cat products. For example, a 50% discount is applied to various types of „Whiskas“ and „Sheba“ cat food, „Club 4 Paws“ dog and cat food, and „ZooRoyal“ pet care products and accessories. And the „Pedigree Party Pack“ dog treats set costs only 3.29 Eur – so you can both replenish necessary supplies and pamper your pets.

There will also be plenty of opportunities to take care of yourself – a 50% discount is applied this week at „Iki“ to various types of cosmetics, shaving, and oral care products. So it is a favorable time to replenish stocks of frequently used products – from shampoo or shower gel to other daily care items. The discount does not apply to baby and children’s cosmetics.
Friday plans can vary – promotions are already prepared for them
When shopping before the weekend, it is worth thinking not only about the nearest lunch or dinner. Only on August 14, Friday, a 50% discount will be applied to various types of creamy curd snacks – they are useful both for breakfast and as a sweet snack on the go. A 40% discount will be applied to various sauces, ketchup, horseradish, mustard, and mayonnaise, so you can replenish stocks of condiments most often used with meat, sandwiches, or other dishes. The same – 40% – can be saved when buying various frozen products and ice cream, as well as packaged nuts, dried fruits, and seeds, which are convenient to have on hand both at home and on the road.
By taking advantage of this week’s offers, part of the shopping can immediately be turned into an unexpected dish – try a new flavor combination and surprise your family members or friends with it.
Grilled pork loin with caramelized bananas
Ingredients: about 900 g pork loin, salt, freshly ground black pepper, 2 tbsp olive oil, 3 ripe bananas, 50 g brown sugar, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp honey, 1 tsp ground ginger, ½ tsp ground cinnamon.
Preparation: Pat the pork loin dry, generously season with salt and pepper, and brush with olive oil. Place on a well-heated grill and sear on all sides until nicely browned. Then reduce the heat, cover the grill, and cook until the temperature in the thickest part of the meat reaches 63 °C. Remove the cooked loin from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing.
While the meat is cooking, prepare the bananas. In a small grill-safe saucepan or cast-iron skillet, mix brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, ground ginger, and cinnamon. Heat for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly. Add banana slices and cook for another 5 minutes until they soften and caramelize. Slice the pork loin, serve with warm bananas, and drizzle with the remaining caramel sauce from the pan.
