“The project is focused on reducing the demand for prostitution and strengthening the preventive effect of administrative sanctions. It is hoped that stricter liability will contribute to the fight against sexual exploitation and human trafficking,” the conclusion states.
As reported by BNS, the amendments propose to establish that the remunerated use of prostitution services would incur a fine from 1 thousand to 1.6 thousand euros, and a repeated offense – from 1.6 thousand to 3.5 thousand euros.
The current procedure provides for fines from 90 to 140 euros, and in the case of a repeated offense – from 140 to 300 euros. Currently, the same liability applies to both those engaged in prostitution and those using the services.

This means that after the adoption of the amendments, a much greater responsibility will be applied to service buyers, while the sanction for service providers will not change.
The Seimas approved the amendments in April after their submission. After consideration in committees, the project is expected to return to the parliament hall in June.
