Lactose intolerance – what is it?
Lactose intolerance is a digestive system reaction to lactose, the sugar found in milk. According to literature, lactose intolerance has been diagnosed in about 25–30% of people in our country.
What causes lactose intolerance?
Lactose intolerance is caused by two factors: lactose malabsorption and intestinal sensitivity. Lactose malabsorption is the main factor – it is the inability to break down and absorb lactose in the small intestine, which causes lactose to later enter the large intestine and cause symptoms.
