How does it work?
Scientist Akira Takahashi and his team identified two main mechanisms by which carbonated water affects the body:
- Metabolism stimulation: the carbon dioxide (CO2) in the drink can improve glucose absorption and metabolism in red blood cells. This helps the body break down energy more efficiently, according to “Women‘s Health”.
- Feeling of fullness: the released gas slightly stretches the lower part of the stomach. This causes a feeling of fullness and reduces hunger, so a person naturally eats less. It is important to emphasize that this effect is only caused by pure carbonated water, not sweetened drinks.
