From „X Factor“ to the biggest stages in the country

The story of „Žemaitukai“ began more than a decade ago. During their university years, Linas and Ovidijus, who met and became roommates, noticed that their voices blended perfectly. As the performers later recalled, their first duet spontaneously sounded in the dormitory shower.

In 2013, the guys, who did not even have a band name yet, appeared in the second season of the TV3 project „X Factor“. Two Samogitians from Skuodas and Plungė immediately won the sympathy of the audience and the jury, and the television project became the beginning of their joint musical path.

However, recognition did not come overnight. For many years, „Žemaitukai“ performed at weddings, cafes, city and town festivals, covered songs by other artists, and patiently grew their audience. The decisive turning point came when the duo started creating original music and, rejecting imposed stage roles, simply being themselves.

In 2023, the fifteen-song album „If the World Belonged to Me“ became an important creative turning point for the group. The audience-favorite songs „If the World Belonged to Me“, „With Friends“, „Flowers“, „Because the World Doesn’t Stop“, the „Unfinished Story“ recorded together with the group „Group 2 – Karolis and Donatas“, and the duet with Adrina „I’ve Had Enough“ were played on radio station charts and gathered millions of views.

Sold-out arena and the most important awards

The recent years have been the period of greatest recognition for „Žemaitukai“. At the M.A.M.A. 2024 awards, the duo was named Traditional Pop Music Group of the Year. At the 2025 M1 Music Awards, listeners voted „Žemaitukai“ Group of the Year and awarded them the Breakthrough of the Year title. The duo has also won three radio station „Lietus“ awards of the year.

An even more significant event in the group’s career was the concert at Kaunas „Žalgiris“ arena. Later, „Žemaitukai“ held a concert tour visiting Šiauliai, Klaipėda, and Panevėžys. The full arenas once again showed that the group’s fan base no longer fits in small concert venues, which is why the next step, the stadium, seems not only ambitious but also completely natural for the performers.

„Today, a huge army of people stands behind us – fans, the team, and everyone who believed in us from the very beginning. Thanks to them, we have a very clear vision and no doubt: we can do it. The time has come for a space that can fit everyone. We want no one who wants to be left outside the doors. There is no fear anymore. There is great joy, anticipation, and the desire to experience once again that unique feeling when thousands of happy people are in front of you. It will be a huge celebration of Lithuanian music. We want everyone to be part of it,“ say Linas Vaitkevičius and Ovidijus Petrauskas.

The biggest concert of the group „Žemaitukai“ career is presented by the largest event organizer in the Baltic States, „Live Nation Lietuva“.
