“We are significantly strengthening our capabilities to respond to hostile drones,” said Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt at the center’s opening ceremony.

“Facing the hybrid threat posed by drones,” this center “will become one of the main elements of the security architecture,” added the minister, speaking at the site of the former commercial airport about 200 km south of Berlin.
Berlin uses the term “hybrid war” to describe hostile actions that cannot be considered clear military attacks. Germany classifies such hostile actions as, among other things, espionage, arson, and sabotage carried out by foreign states or on their behalf.
According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, nearly 1,000 suspicious drones flew over critical infrastructure in Germany last year.
A. Dobrindt warned at a press conference that the explosives found in Leipzig this month are not an “isolated case.”

“Leipzig is part of a broader picture,” he said. “The threat situation has become even more serious.”
Berlin so far refuses to speculate on the possible motives or identities of those responsible for the incident in Leipzig.
Flights to this airport were diverted to other airports for several hours while the police, using an explosive disposal robot, removed the detonator of the explosives.
This airport in East Germany is one of the most important cargo hubs in Europe and is important for military logistics. Military cargo for the German armed forces and NATO allies is transported through this airport, among others. It is also home to the Ukrainian airline “Antonov Airlines.”
