Approximately 36.5 thousand euros worth of state property – bicycle flow recording equipment, air quality measuring devices, smart benches – were transferred to these municipalities, a proposal by the Ministry of Environment approved by the Government this week.

“The property was allocated as prizes for the leaders of the Lithuanian municipalities’ environmental rating and the municipalities that made the greatest progress,” the draft resolution note states.
Bicycle counting devices were transferred to Vilnius and Jonava, two automatic air quality measurement systems to Klaipėda, and one smart bench each to Panevėžys and Jurbarkas.
“Awarding prizes is a practical motivation and environmental policy implementation tool that allows municipalities to strengthen and develop the activities for which they were recognized,” the document says.

The municipalities’ environmental rating has been compiled since 2022, evaluating the progress of municipalities in environmental protection.
Municipalities are rated based on indicators of sustainable mobility, air and water quality, climate change management, biodiversity, and environmental awareness.
