Marcino Kierwinski’s comment appeared after the police in the Lower Silesia region in southwestern Poland reported on Sunday that a 30-year-old Polish woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a knife attack in Wroclaw.

18-year-old Ukrainian
Authorities indicated that the suspect in the attack, which occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday, is an 18-year-old Ukrainian citizen who was detained “very quickly.”
Although the reasons for the attack are unclear, it took place amid heightened tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv and an increase in incidents targeting Ukrainians. Some claim these were fueled by anti-Ukrainian rhetoric from far-right representatives in Poland.
The police reported that the incident in Wroclaw is being treated as attempted murder, but did not provide details about the motive for the attack.
M. Kierwinski wrote on social media: “The suspect has been detained. Well done [Lower Silesia police]… Zero tolerance for criminals and hatred.”

How it all happened
Poland’s public broadcaster TVP Info, citing witnesses, reported that the attack began on the street, after which the suspect followed the victim into an apartment building and carried out the attack in the stairwell.
TVP also noted that the victim’s neighbor heard screams.
Polish-Ukrainian relations deteriorated after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in May decided to name a special forces unit after a nationalist organization that played a major role in World War II massacres that claimed up to 100,000 Polish lives.
Although Warsaw remains one of Kyiv’s most loyal supporters in defending against Russia’s war, support for state aid to Ukrainian refugees has waned in Poland in recent years.
