The study lasted almost 25 years
Experts talk about the consumption of fatty cheese. In a study published in the journal „Neurology“, scientists analyzed data from more than 27,000 people, writes uwm.edu. Their average age at the start of the study was 58 years, and the observation lasted about 25 years.
Researchers compared people who ate more fatty cheese daily with those who ate little. Cheeses such as cheddar, brie, or gouda were considered fatty.

It turned out that people who ate more fatty cheese had a 13% lower risk of dementia. A lower risk of vascular dementia was also found – this form is often associated with small strokes and vascular damage in the brain.
A similar connection was observed between the consumption of fatty cream and a lower risk of dementia.
Some fatty cheeses contain vitamin K2, which is associated with better vascular health.
Experts explain that some fatty cheeses contain vitamin K2, which is associated with better vascular health. And vascular health is directly related to brain function.
However, scientists emphasize that the study did not prove a direct cause. In other words, it cannot be claimed that cheese itself protects against dementia.

It may be that people who ate more cheese generally lived healthier, were more physically active, or had other habits that also contributed to the lower risk.
Interestingly, the study did not find a connection between the risk of dementia and the consumption of low-fat dairy products, milk, or yogurt.
According to one of the study authors, nutritional epidemiologist Emily Sonestedt, these results show that when it comes to brain health, not all dairy products affect the body equally.
Healthy lifestyle is important
Experts remind that fatty dairy products still contain a significant amount of saturated fats, so the overall lifestyle remains the most important.
According to specialists, the greatest impact on brain health comes from several factors together: physical activity, nutrition, social interaction, quality sleep, and chronic disease management.
