But in March, 28-year-old J. Kerr announced that he would seek to improve the 27-year-old world record held by Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj in the 1500 m distance in his homeland. He more than fulfilled this promise – he completed the race in 3 min. 42.66 sec.
In front of 60,000 spectators in a packed London stadium, the Scot improved H. El Guerrouj’s record by almost half a second, which had remained untouched since 1999. At that time, J. Kerr was only one year old.
Until now, J. Kerr’s personal record and the British record stood at 3 min. 45.34 sec., and he ranked sixth on the all-time list.

In London, his toughest competition was expected to come from American Yared Nuguse, who was fourth on the all-time list, but in the end, there was no suspense – J. Kerr triumphed.
With the audience on their feet, J. Kerr completed the 1500 meters faster than his own British record pace in this distance. After finishing, he raised his hands and did not hide his emotions.
