„Silver Crane Nights“ will offer more than 15 Lithuanian cinema evenings across Lithuania

Summer cinema screenings will visit more than 15 Lithuanian cities, with five meetings awaiting viewers already in June. In the first summer month, the festival will visit Tadas Ivanauskas’ Obelynė homestead, Birštonas, Plungė, Vilkija, and Užpaliai. The program features films covering feature films, short films, animated films, and student works categories. In each city, visitors will see as many as 4 films. The events will be hosted, viewers will interact with, and guests from the world of cinema will be interviewed by faces already well-known to festival visitors – actresses Sandra Daukšaitė-Petrulėnė and Emilija Latėnaitė.

“We are very happy that “Silver Crane Nights” are flying to Tadas Ivanauskas’ Obelynė homestead this year. It is symbolic that a crane sculpture also stands in the territory of Obelynė. Tadas Ivanauskas himself was famous for his love of animals – he raised not only a raccoon or a crow, but also a crane. Therefore, we invite visitors to capture themselves next to the bronze crane sculpture standing here,” smiles Laura Auksutytė, project manager of the Kaunas District Museum.

According to her, the film program was also chosen not by chance.

“We believe that the documentary film “Dust, Bones and Miracles”, which tells about museology, restoration and the natural world, will resonate particularly meaningfully in this space. Obelynė is a place where culture naturally meets nature – an old heritage apple orchard grows here, abundant with vegetation and life. We believe that this environment will help create a special cinematic experience and bring the community together,” says L. Auksutytė.

“For a film to live, it needs an audience – no matter if it’s a small or a big city, we are very happy that many people will see the film,” says Meinardas Valkevičius, one of the producers of the film “Ten”, nominated in the Best Animated Film of the Year category.

According to him, viewers will see even more animated films next year.

“I think that the golden age of animation is beginning right now, marked not only by an abundance of films, but also by healthy competition. Lithuanian animation creators are currently doing great – this is evidenced by appearances at foreign festivals and awards won there for their unique visual execution and deep themes,” says M. Valkevičius.

From June to September, the festival will also visit more cities. The list includes Elektrėnai, Kalvarija, Klaipėda, Mažeikiai, Semeliškės, Jurbarkas, Ežerėlis, Kėdainiai, Joniškis, Vilnius, Šiauliai.
