The meeting was convened due to recent Russian strikes on Ukraine. Because of them, the Polish army scrambled fighter jets, and services warned residents of border regions about a possible threat, reports “Onet”.
One Russian drone struck a train traveling the Kyiv–Warsaw route near the border with Poland, and another hit near the Dorohusk–Jagodina border crossing point.
It is reported that Polish airspace was protected for several hours by F-16 fighters, helicopters, and a SAAB reconnaissance aircraft.
“The threat was real”
Although no violation of the airspace of the Republic of Poland was recorded, this was confirmed by the country’s Armed Forces operational command.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that early in the morning Polish systems detected an attack by more than ten Geran-5 jet drones in Western Ukraine. One of them struck just 1 kilometer from the Polish border, another – 5 kilometers away.
“The drones were active, and some of them even attacked targets located very close to the Polish border – from a few to more than ten kilometers,” said Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, a representative of the Polish Armed Forces operational command.
He assessed that for Poland “the threat was real”.
Polish news radio station RMF FM also reported that in the morning police in the Lublin Voivodeship received a report about a possible explosion. Services went to two locations – Szczecin in Krasnik County and Stojeszyn-Pervś in Janów County. However, the source of the disturbing sounds could not be found.
