However, heavy rains, hail, strong winds, and local floods have now caused new chaos in some parts of the country – in the western city of Wrocław, roads had to be closed because water accumulated under railway bridges and flooded tram tracks.
A fallen tree also damaged the overhead tram wires, disrupting public transport traffic.
What they advise not to do
In other parts of Lower Silesia, roofs were torn off buildings, and 120 employees were evacuated from a damaged warehouse in the city of Jelenia Góra.
Authorities advised residents to stay home if possible, secure loose objects, and avoid sheltering under trees.
Poland issues warnings about extreme situations
Poland’s government security center (RCB) sent warnings directly to mobile phones in southern, eastern, and western Poland.
“Warning! Today, July 15, thunder, strong winds, and intense rains. Possible power outages. Avoid open areas,” the message said, quoted by „TVP World“.
The warnings covered two southern counties and parts of four other regions in eastern, western, and southwestern Poland.
Meteorologists warned that precipitation in central and southern Poland could reach 70 millimeters, with wind gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour.
