As reported by representatives of the Podembice police in Poland, on Saturday, July 11, shortly after 11 a.m. local time, a police dispatcher received information that a black “Mercedes” stolen in Germany might be moving from Poznań towards Warsaw. Therefore, several traffic police officers were immediately sent to the A2 highway.
They spotted the car after noon, which matched the received description – the make, model, and color matched. However, the car’s license plates were different, but this did not reduce the officers’ vigilance.
“The officers assessed that the plates could have been changed, so they decided to stop the car for inspection. The driver complied with the instructions and stopped the vehicle in a safe place – at a traveler service area.
A 36-year-old Lithuanian citizen was behind the wheel of the “Mercedes”.
During the inspection, the police found that the man did not have the car key. Additionally, two license plates were found in the vehicle, the numbers of which matched those previously indicated by the dispatcher.

The officers checked the car’s VIN number in police information systems. It was confirmed that this was the same car being sought,” the police statement said.
The vehicle was placed in a secured lot, and the 36-year-old Lithuanian citizen was detained and taken to the police detention center.
According to the Polish police, the man was charged with two offenses – car theft and use of foreign license plates. For these crimes, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
