A journalist wearing a green dress faced criticism for her behavior during the trial of the Lindsay Clancy child murder case. During the live broadcast, the camera caught Brittany Romano smiling and blinking at the lens. After the uproar, the journalist lost her accreditation from Vanity Fair magazine.
On Monday, the Court TV camera filmed a line of journalists in the courtroom. When it turned to Brittany Romano, she smiled broadly and blinked at the camera, while the journalists sitting around her remained serious.
The court is currently deciding whether Lindsay Clancy should be found guilty of killing her three children by strangulation or acquitted due to mental illness. This case has attracted huge public attention and shocked many – one of the potential jurors even left the courtroom in tears before the trial began.

After the incident, Romano was asked about her unusual reaction. She explained that she ended up in court also because she grew up with Lindsay Clancy. The journalist also said that she smiled during the TV broadcast because her father told her she looked sad on screen.
However, such behavior cost her the accreditation from Vanity Fair. The magazine announced on Tuesday that it was ending its collaboration with the journalist.
“We were interested in Brittany Romano’s personal article about her experience growing up with Lindsay Clancy. However, yesterday, after identifying clear discrepancies with our editorial standards and work processes, we informed Romano that the article would no longer be published. We also informed the court that she is no longer accredited as a Vanity Fair journalist,” the publication stated.

On Tuesday, Romano was no longer seen in the courtroom, although her name was still listed on the journalists’ list outside the courthouse. It was noted that she represented New York Magazine and Vanity Fair.
The journalist herself responded to the online criticism on social media on Tuesday. In one Instagram story, she sarcastically wrote: “All this because I smiled at the camera?! I love it! Thank you for increasing my views.”
In another story, Romano said she was receiving very offensive comments and even threats. She claimed that some internet users were urging her to commit suicide and personally insulting her.
Asked to comment on the situation, Romano also raised the question in an email to The Post as to why another woman sitting next to her, who according to the journalist actually laughed during the trial, did not receive similar criticism.
The trial of 36-year-old Lindsay Clancy from Duxbury is nearing its end this week – witness testimonies may have been completed as early as Tuesday.
Clancy seeks to have the jury find her not guilty due to her mental state. She claims that at the time of the crime she suffered from severe postpartum psychosis, heard voices, and was convinced that by killing her children she was helping them. After killing the children, she also attempted suicide.
