The 44-year-old American confirmed her return to the WTA tour by sharing a video on social media.
“Good news travels very fast,” she added in the caption.
The former world number one’s return to tennis will take place next week at the WTA 500 series tournament in London on the legendary grass courts of the Queen’s Club.
The tournament organizers gave the tennis player a personal invitation to the doubles tournament. Although Serena’s partner has not yet been officially announced, earlier backstage the name of Canadian tennis talent Victoria Mboko (WTA-9) was heard.
“This tournament seems like the perfect place to open a new chapter in my career. Playing on grass has given me some of the most valuable moments of my career and I am very excited to appear again on this iconic surface,” Serena herself said.

Although next week the tennis player will only play doubles, S. Williams also plans to play singles – the main focus will most likely be on the Wimbledon tournament.
The veteran has won Wimbledon seven times in her career, last doing so in 2016. In total, she has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
