Hokono’s father, King Harald V, died Friday morning at the age of 89 at Oslo University Hospital, where he was being treated for hemolytic anemia – a condition caused by the unusually rapid destruction of red blood cells.
Becoming king after his father’s death, Hokon on Tuesday swore in parliament to uphold the country’s constitution, under which the royal family performs mostly symbolic functions.
