Finland, Norway, and Sweden have started joint air force exercises in Finnish Lapland, strengthening cooperation among NATO’s northern countries in the strategically important High North region, reports “TVP World”.

The training at the Rovaniemi air base in northern Finnish Lapland includes efforts to improve these countries’ ability to refuel, rearm, and service each other’s fighters. The exercises foresee Norwegian F-35s participating in joint flights with Finnish and Swedish forces.
These exercises are part of broader efforts to integrate the air power of the Nordic countries. Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark are developing the “Nordic Airpower Concept,” which aims to enable their national air forces to plan and conduct operations more closely as a unified force.
Cooperation has gained even greater significance after Finland and Sweden joined NATO following Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine. NATO has also strengthened its presence in northern Finland, where new multinational forces were activated earlier this year.
These four Nordic countries jointly operate or acquire more than 200 combat aircraft.
