“For us, as a Lithuanian capital media group with more than 150 professional, renowned, and authoritative authors creating content, it is important that the country’s youth consume news only from carefully verified and reliable sources. We decided to provide students with free access to our exclusive content during their studies. We hope this will cultivate the habit of seeking the latest information not on social networks, where there is much misinformation and audience manipulation today, but in Lithuanian media, which follows the highest journalistic standards, ethics, and takes responsibility for the content it disseminates,” says Tomas Balžekas, head of the 15min group, about the new initiative.

Launching this project, the news portal 15min will provide free subscriptions to university students and the academic community in Lithuania. So far, agreements have been signed with three higher education institutions – Vilnius University, Kaunas University of Technology, and Vytautas Magnus University, with the list expected to grow soon. It is planned to gift free subscriptions to other university communities in the country as well, so institutions wishing to join the initiative are invited to register now by email at prenumerata@15min.lt.

Participants in the project will have the opportunity to read all subscription content – analytical articles, investigations, comments from professionals in their fields, interviews, and other high-quality journalism. The main goal is to contribute to strengthening the information literacy of the younger generation and fostering a critically thinking society, helping them better navigate the flow of information, recognize reliable sources, and form well-reasoned views on the most important social processes.

“The amount and speed of information are growing at a tremendous pace. Traditional media is being challenged by content created by influencers, manipulators, and artificial intelligence, distributed through social networks where greedy algorithms fuel speech of anger and fear. Traditional media is an important counterbalance, offering more thorough fact-checking, diversity of opinions, and more moderate language. This initiative will provide more opportunities for young people to access quality information and get acquainted with traditional media,” is convinced V. Beniušis.

The new project “Study the world with 15min – quality journalism for students for free” is part of the social responsibility of the 15min group, contributing to the growth of a conscious, informed, and democratic society. Free 15min subscriptions will be provided to members of university communities who have an active institutional university email address. The subscription will be valid as long as the specific person’s university email is active. Upon graduation or loss of connection with the institution, the free subscription will automatically end.

The 15min portal has been the fastest-growing in terms of readers and subscribers over the past two years and is the most subscribed news portal in Lithuania. Currently, 15min has over 51 thousand subscribers, with the subscriber community growing by more than 20% over the year.

According to the annual reach results study of the largest Lithuanian media groups conducted by the company “Fifty5Blue” (formerly “Kantar”), the 15min group is the only one that has grown both its daily and monthly audience. According to the latest data from November 2025 to January 2026, the 15min group reaches up to 1.1 million daily (50.9% of the entire media audience) and 1.8 million monthly (82.7% of the entire media audience).

“15min” is a Lithuanian capital group of companies managed through the holding company “4 Bees.” The group owns the news portal 15min, radio stations M1, M1 PLIUS, “Lietus,” M1 DANCE, “Laluna,” as well as magazines “Žmonės,” “Ji,” “Legendos,” the news agency BNS, and the home cinema platform “ŽMONĖS Cinema.”
