The professional sports market in Kansas City is developed, but the community has felt an obvious void for several decades. There has been no NBA team in this region since 1985, when the Kings moved to Sacramento, California, writes Eurohoops.net.
Mayor Q. Lucas believes now is the right time to change this situation. At a press conference on Friday, the 41-year-old politician strongly advocated for Kansas’ return to the NBA, aiming to attract a team looking for a brand new location, or to contribute to the league’s potential expansion.
“I think we are probably still the most sports-supporting city in America,” he noted, expressing full confidence in the long-term financial sustainability of the local market.
“I think we could easily sustain an NBA team, and I think discussions will continue both for franchises themselves looking for other locations and for NBA expansion. This is a discussion Kansas City wants to be a part of,” he added.

The NBA is constantly monitoring markets like Las Vegas and Seattle for an anticipated expansion to 32 teams, while at the same time rumors are circulating about the relocation of the Portland Trail Blazers.
As is known, the NBA also seeks to strengthen its presence in Europe and plans the launch of the “NBA Europe” project.
