The Italian daily “Repubblica” reported that E. Messina will take on a consultant role in Atlanta.
He had already held such a position at the “Los Angeles Lakers” club in the 2011-2012 season, and from 2014 to 2019 he worked as an assistant to then “San Antonio Spurs” head coach Gregg Popovich.
In Atlanta, the Italian will join forces with “Hawks” head coach Quin Snyder, who has worked as E. Messina’s assistant at Moscow CSKA club.
The legendary Italian left the Milan “Olimpia” club this summer, where he worked as head coach for six years and served as president of basketball operations for seven years.
According to “Repubblica,” E. Messina will combine his consultant duties at the “Hawks” club with work as a commentator on one of the Italian television channels.

E. Messina won the EuroLeague four times as a coach, but his stint with “Olimpia” was not successful. The Milan club managed to reach the EuroLeague Final Four in 2021 and the quarterfinals in 2022, but later never finished higher than 11th place.
