Iran and the US have almost reached an agreement: "Axios" revealed the conditions

US officials said that as of Tuesday, the terms of the agreement had essentially been agreed upon. However, both sides still needed approval from their top leaders. Later, according to officials, Iran returned stating that it had all the necessary permits to sign the agreement. At that time, US President Donald Trump requested a few additional days to decide.

“The president conveyed to the intermediaries that he needed a few days to think,” said one official.

According to the publication, the memorandum specifically provides for “unimpeded” navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. This includes the absence of customs and interference, as well as Iran’s commitment to remove all mines from the strait within 30 days. In addition, the US should lift the naval blockade on Iran. However, this would only happen after commercial shipping is resumed in the region.

The memorandum also includes Iran’s commitment to “not pursue nuclear weapons.” One of the first issues after the agreement’s approval should be the fate of Iran’s highly enriched uranium, specifically its disposal. In turn, the US commits to discussing sanctions relief and the return of frozen Iranian funds during negotiations.

“The memorandum will also discuss a mechanism that will help Iran start receiving goods and humanitarian aid,” the publication adds.

Situation in the Middle East

It is noted that this is not the first media report about a possible US-Iran agreement to cease hostilities. Earlier, Reuters reported that the countries were already close to a peace agreement and that it was a “matter of days.”

Meanwhile, on May 28, Reuters reported a new escalation in the region. According to journalists, the US struck an Iranian drone base that “posed a threat to American forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.” This was the second US strike on Iran this week.
