This visit took place a day after a senior US diplomatic official announced the postponement until October of the US-mediated Israel-Lebanon talks planned for next week.

He praised the staff of the Nabatieh State Hospital, emphasizing that medical workers risk their lives providing services in a region from which most people have evacuated.
Fighting between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah had subsided from the end of June until last week. On Thursday, the Israelis blew up underground fortifications in a strategically important area. Before that, they took control of a facility located a few kilometers from the city of Nabatieh.
The explosion was so powerful that it caused seismic tremors recorded by monitoring agencies.
In the past few days, Israeli strikes in this region have claimed at least 29 lives, including 12 members of one family.
The Lebanese army, which deployed forces in the city of Nabatieh, warned on Wednesday that Israeli actions threaten the implementation of the agreement.
The agreement provides for the disarmament of Hezbollah, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the region, starting with pilot zones.
