A skydiver survived a fall from about 10,000 feet, or just over 3 kilometers, even though she did not have time to open her parachute.
35-year-old H. Wiffen participated in a group jump called “tracking” on August 7 at Langar Airfield near Nottingham. During this type of jump, skydivers move horizontally in the air.
The woman, who works in dentistry, jumped from the plane with the group as planned at about 12,000 feet. However, shortly after, she was hit on the head by another skydiver’s foot.
H. Wiffen lost consciousness before she could open her parachute. It is reported that she regained consciousness lying on the ground – it is believed she hit a tree while falling.
Incredible as it is, the woman survived. She broke her left leg, suffered spinal vertebrae injuries, and had numerous bruises.

The accident was recounted on the fundraising platform “GoFundMe” by her sister Hannah.
“As many of you already know, on August 7 Holly was involved in an accident during a parachute jump. During a group ‘tracking’ jump, another skydiver hit her, she lost consciousness and woke up already on the ground. Unfortunately, she broke her leg and suffered spinal vertebrae injuries, but she was incredibly lucky to survive and, although with difficulty, to come out of this situation alive,” wrote her sister.
According to her, H. Wiffen faces a long recovery period, so funds are being raised for physiotherapy and other expenses.
A 22-year-old skydiver died here.
“The road to recovery will be long and difficult, so I created this fundraising campaign to help cover her physiotherapy costs – the public health system has very long waiting times – as well as other expenses during the time she cannot work, as she is self-employed. Holly is not the type of person to ask for help, but from what she told me about the skydiving community, I know many will want to help one of their own,” wrote Hannah.
This is not the first tragic incident at Langar Airfield this summer. On July 5, during another accident unrelated to this one, a 22-year-old skydiver died here.
