In a specially arranged space, people wrote down thoughts that they believed could become important for next year’s Vilnius Book Fair. The collected suggestions will become part of the creative process – they will help refine the directions from which the theme of the 2027 fair will be formed.

“The Vilnius Book Fair has changed over more than two decades along with readers and society. Therefore, as a new stage of the fair approaches, we first wanted to hear its visitors and ask what thoughts, themes, or questions are important to them today. People’s suggestions give us the opportunity to better feel what the readers’ community lives by and what conversations it would like to continue in the literary and cultural space,” says Dovilė Zaidė, president of the Lithuanian Publishers Association.
Unique date for the 2027 Vilnius Book Fair
The 2027 Vilnius Book Fair, together with the Music Hall, will take place for the only time in its history in autumn – September 16–19 at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO. In 2028, the fair will return to its traditional February schedule.
The unusual date gives the organizers an opportunity to look at the 2027 fair a little differently – not only to change its place in the calendar but also to seek new ways to create the event’s atmosphere, content, and connection with visitors.
“The renewed LITEXPO spaces will allow for a broader layout of the fair’s program, moving more activities to different halls and more actively utilizing the entire center’s territory.
We want different parts of the fair to naturally connect with each other, and visitors to have more space not only to discover books but also to meet, listen, discuss, and experience the fair in various formats,” says Vilius Vaičekauskas, director of the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO.
When the fair’s theme is helped to be created by its visitors
The annual theme of the Vilnius Book Fair becomes one of the guidelines for shaping content, discussions, meetings, and conversations. It helps define questions and ideas that are important at that time in the context of literature, culture, and society. However, the fair’s content is not limited to just the literary program – an important part is also music, which complements the overall atmosphere and brings together different audiences.
“The Music Hall is an integral part of the Vilnius Book Fair, annually bringing together music creators, performers, publishers, and listeners. Therefore, it is important for us to hear what themes, questions, and ideas matter to the fair’s visitors today – to the entire cultural community that meets at the Vilnius Book Fair,” says Agnė Begetė, director of the Lithuanian Collective Rights Management Association AGATA.
The initiative was symbolically started precisely during the “Book Square” held on Vilnius Days, where publishers, authors, and readers met in one place. However, the first thoughts left in Vilnius are just the beginning. From now on, people from all over Lithuania can submit their suggestions – until October 18, we invite you to share topics, ideas, questions, or slogans on the Vilnius Book Fair’s “Facebook” and “Instagram” pages.
The collected thoughts will be analyzed to find recurring themes, relevant questions, and directions that could form the basis for shaping the final theme of the 2027 Vilnius Book Fair.
The 27th Vilnius Book Fair will take place on September 16–19, 2027, at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO. The Vilnius Book Fair is organized by LLA, the Lithuanian Collective Rights Management Association AGATA, and the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO. The partners of the Vilnius Book Fair are the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Vilnius City Municipality.
