According to the Neringa municipality, from 2025 the paid parking areas were expanded and a zonal system was introduced – green, red, and blue zones. Public parking lots in apartment courtyards were also included in the charged areas.

According to the municipality, one of the main goals of the changes was to reduce the concentration of cars in the central part of Nida, create a tidier and safer environment, and better utilize the existing infrastructure.
“The aim was to prevent cars from being parked chaotically or left in unsuitable places, and to choose infrastructure designated for longer-term parking,” the municipality told BNS.
It stated that the changed tariffs encouraged drivers to leave their cars for longer periods in cheaper parking lots located further from the center of Nida.
“We believe that the introduced changes have proven effective – traffic flows during the summer season are regulated more efficiently, existing parking spaces are better utilized, and there are more parking options for Nida visitors based on location, duration, and price,” the municipality said.
According to it, the collected funds will be used for the development of parking infrastructure – the construction of a two-level car park with a solar power plant on Taikos Street in Nida.

“This is a large-scale project, so accordingly the funds collected from the parking fees will be allocated to this project for several years. Of course, other sources of project financing are also being sought,” the municipality said.
It also emphasized that although the paid parking zones were expanded, from 2025 the fee application period was shortened by two months – it is collected from June 1 to August 31. Previously, parking fees were paid from May until the end of September.
The municipality also highlights that the parking regulations were adjusted taking into account the comments of residents and business representatives. Among the changes – the cheapest green zone was expanded and a permit was introduced, allowing relatives of residents to benefit from parking concessions.
“To our knowledge, this type of permit is a unique solution at least in the practice of Lithuanian municipalities. It aims to ensure that parking regulation addresses not only traffic flow management but also the daily needs of permanent residents of Neringa,” the response stated.
Currently, the municipality does not plan to change the existing paid parking regulations but says it will continue to monitor its operation and improve it if necessary.
