Meanwhile, in Neringa, according to the mayor, initially only two customers were recorded as disconnected from the electricity supply. Later there was one left, and ESO reported that there were no disruptions in Neringa.

The mayor emphasized that the current situation should be assessed not only as favorable circumstances.

“These numbers are not just success. Seven years ago, electricity supply disruptions in Neringa, especially after stronger winds and storms, were a constantly recurring problem.

In the Curonian Spit, a large-scale electricity infrastructure reconstruction was implemented back in 2019: old transformer substations were renovated, and decades-old overhead lines began to be replaced with underground cables. The project planned to lay as much as 90 kilometers of power lines underground.

Today we see the result of these decisions,” the mayor wrote.

The mayor also emphasized that large infrastructure projects are not implemented quickly, but their importance becomes especially evident in extreme conditions.

“I am glad that at that time it was possible to fundamentally move this problem that had accompanied Neringa for many years,” he said.
