On August 4, an Airbus A320 flying to Delhi suddenly plummeted, and passengers gripped by fear were thrown against the plane’s ceiling. Chilling videos show cracks appearing in the cabin after the plane suddenly dropped 90 minutes after takeoff in Thailand.

Local media report that at least 20 people were injured. It was revealed that the pilot controlling the plane was intoxicated with marijuana during the flight – this is stated in a report provided by NDTV.

It turned out that the pilot failed two separate checks, and a confirmatory drug test showed a positive result for marijuana use. Investigators analyzed the captain’s behavior during the flight after the cabin crew filed a complaint with Air India, claiming he was unable to control himself.

It is reported that at the time when warning signals activated as the aircraft lost altitude, the captain was sitting on the floor. Sources informed that upon landing in Delhi, the pilot struggled to stand and needed help sitting down.

It was stated that during the urine test, the pilot was physically assisted by the officer conducting the test. One passenger even claimed that before the plane took off, it was visible that the pilot was intoxicated. It is reported that a crew member filed a complaint about the pilot’s possible marijuana use.

In a later safety report, the pilot stated: “In the interest of full transparency, I report that I experienced sleep disturbances for some time due to personal circumstances, for which my family doctor prescribed medication. During the layover, I tried to rest myself; it was difficult to fall asleep, so I decided that light activity, such as walking, would be beneficial for sleep quality.”

India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is reviewing flight data, aircraft systems, maintenance and operational records, medical information, and conducting interviews as part of an independent investigation.

The pilot struggled to stand and needed help sitting down.

It is reported that during the horrific incident last week, many passengers were asleep. One passenger recounted that the aircraft shook for about two or three minutes before tilting. Air India stated that a brief turbulence-related incident occurred during the flight.

The airline’s representative at the time said that passenger and crew safety and well-being are the top priority and added that those affected will be provided with “necessary assistance.” It was also stated that Air India will “fully” cooperate with authorities during the investigation.
