Judge Shahid Waheed announced that 73-year-old I. Khan, imprisoned since 2023 on corruption charges, will be transferred within the next two days to an international hospital located in the capital Islamabad.

I. Khan and his wife were sentenced to 17 years in prison at the end of last year.
This year, his eyes were treated in the hospital – his family and lawyer stated that he almost lost sight in his right eye.
The former captain of the Pakistan cricket team served as prime minister from 2018 to 2022. He was removed through a vote of no confidence amid a political crisis caused by tensions between his government and the influential military of this South Asian country.

Since then, numerous cases have been filed against him for corruption and other charges.
I. Khan and his party “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf” claim that the cases against him are politically motivated.
His arrest in May 2023 sparked nationwide protests, some of which turned violent and led to the detention of hundreds of people.
