Upon implementation of the project, the area where the beach is currently located will transform into a special public space – here, the nature of the Vokė River will merge with various activities for the residents of Grigiškės. The public tender for construction was announced by Vilniaus vystymo kompanija, the capital’s public interest object development and management company implementing the project.

It is expected that construction works in the public space should begin already in Q4 2026. They are planned to be completed by the end of 2027. A construction permit for the project was obtained last summer.
“Throughout the city, we are creating comfortable public spaces as close as possible to residents’ homes. Although Grigiškės beach has long been a beloved community spot, its potential is far from being fully utilized. After the transformation, all necessary infrastructure for comfortable and safe recreation by the water, active leisure, walks, sports, and community gatherings will be available here. This will not be an ordinary renovation of the area – we will create a modern, attractive public space adapted to various residents’ needs, which, I believe, will become a center of attraction in Grigiškės,” says Valdas Benkunskas, Mayor of Vilnius.
The area near Afindevičių Street will accommodate a multitude of activities, all surrounded by natural beauty. Natural materials and earthy colors have been used for the installations, blending with the landscape. The fast-flowing Vokė River also dictated the design theme – water will dominate here: sand, boats. For example, the children’s playground will feature an installation resembling a ship, as well as sand, nets, and a water-blue surface.
“The renovation of Grigiškės beach has reached an important stage – we are starting the search for a contractor who will help transform this area into a modern, comfortable, and versatile public space. We aim to create a place where both the local community and city guests can enjoy their time, while preserving and respecting the unique, nature-sensitive environment,” says Laura Joffė, head of Vilniaus vystymo kompanija.
In the central part of the area, a wooden stage with rows of benches around it has been designed, suitable for events, sports activities, or outdoor classes. Between the stage and the beach, in the shade of trees, a grill area and chess tables will be set up.

The existing beach will be supplemented with changing cabins, a lifeguard post, bicycle racks, a terrace with hammocks, sun loungers, and benches.
The riverside path will be connected to the upper path of the area. This path will also be adapted for people with physical disabilities. The paths will be installed above the flood zone risk limit.
Special attention is given to community gardens – as much as possible, the boundaries of existing gardens will be maintained, with minimal adjustments in some places. Steps connecting the gardens to the river will be installed next to the raised path.
At the request of residents, a fenced dog walking area has been designed, and nearby – a three-stall automatic toilet, bicycle racks, a drinking water station, and a car parking lot. Existing exercise equipment and playgrounds will be replaced with high-quality, modern installations, and sports field equipment will be adapted for residents of different ages, including seniors. It is planned to relocate the outdoor volleyball court and enclose it with a net, as well as to install a table tennis area.
Landscaping solutions are focused on natural integration into nature. It is planned to plant 52 trees, 18 accent shrubs, 1173 shrubs, 719 sq. m of flowering meadows, and over 4000 sq. m of lawn. White willows will be planted closest to the river, silver maples in open areas, and the territory will be diversified by flowering trees and bird-attracting plants.
