This autumn, the little ones can look forward to playful meetings, while the older ones will hear stories about friendship, imagination, courage, and life choices.

The first visit to the theater does not necessarily have to start with a several-hour-long performance in the Grand Hall. For some, the most suitable beginning might be a half-hour concert, for others – the opportunity to get involved in the action themselves, and as they grow, to venture into the broad waters of opera and ballet.
This autumn, LNOBT offers a very wide repertoire for children of various ages, and November 7th at the theater is Family Day.
First steps – through music, movement, and play
The “Sounding Little Feet” series, designed for the youngest viewers, invites them to get acquainted with ballet through experiences close to the child – music, movement, and a fairy tale. In a concert lasting about half an hour, children meet familiar characters from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and see that stories can also be followed through dance.
The performance “Zuikis Puikis” is intended for the first encounters with opera. Here, children aged 3-7 are not silent observers – together with the characters, they sing, play, and learn in the lessons of the Bunny School. The performance, held in a chamber hall, features young opera soloists, actors, dancers, and choristers from the Children’s Opera Studio.
When a fairy tale opens up more serious questions
As a child grows, the themes the theater discusses with them also change. The ballet “Enchanted Eyes,” aimed at viewers aged 5–12, tells about friendship, first feelings, and the question of whether a perfectly obedient machine can replace a real person. Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s “The Sandman” and the classical ballet “Coppélia,” the story features Professor Coppélius dreaming of creating a robot empire that
would resolve human conflicts, but the young heroes have to understand for themselves the value of imperfect, sometimes complicated human connection.
The opera “Five Mary’s Miracles,” intended for the whole family, features a mysterious nanny Mary who brings not only miracles into the Ben family’s life. In the libretto by poet Ramutė Skučaitė, created based on motifs from Pamela Travers’ works, wit blends with a more serious subtext about family, sadness, joy, and the brief moments of life that we do not always notice.
And “Alice in Wonderland” invites you to dive into a world free from usual rules. The Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, the Caterpillar, the Queen of Hearts, and other characters from Lewis Carroll’s world become part of a colorful opera, but at its center remains the child’s imagination – the ability to see in everyday life what the adult eye sometimes no longer notices. The creators of the performance emphasize that although the opera tells about children, it is intended for the whole family.

A performance that has enchanted many times
The family repertoire still includes “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” – one of the longest-running performances on the LNOBT stage. Its history in the theater spans decades, so some current parents, having grown up with this performance, now bring their own children to it.
The artists associate the long-term success of the production with choreography that is easy for children to understand, humor, vivid characters, and music by Bogdan Pawłowski that characterizes each of them.
Such performances become not only a child’s first acquaintance with the theater but also a family tradition.
November 7th – Family Day
On one autumn day, a large crowd of young audience members will flock to the theater. On November 7th, LNOBT will hold Family Day: the theater will present “Sounding Little Feet,” two performances of “Zuikis Puikis,” and the opera “Five Mary’s Miracles.”
This is a miniature of the entire family repertoire – from the first short acquaintance with ballet to an interactive opera for the very youngest and a larger-scale performance for the whole family.
Theater can be discovered beyond the audience hall
This autumn, getting to know the theater is not limited to performances alone. The theater also offers updated tours adapted for visitors of various ages – from three-year-old children to seniors. They provide a look at the theater from the other side of the stage, an introduction to its spaces, backstage, and what happens before the curtain rises.
The theater can become for a child not only a place where a performance is watched but also a space to be curious, learn to listen, recognize emotions, and discover more and more. The earlier this acquaintance begins, the more opportunities there are for it to continue.
