Meras: two people died in a gas station in Kyiv after a Russian drone strike

Concerns are growing in the capital of Ukraine that Moscow has launched a new campaign targeting gas stations. This is a tactic that Russian soldiers have long used in territories closer to the front line.

“Two people have now died during the morning attack on a gas station in Kyiv,” said Mayor Vitali Klitschko on social media.

Rescue services released footage showing the burned gas station area still smoking after the drone attack.

Ukraine’s oil giant Ukrnafta reported that two of its gas stations were hit simultaneously on Friday morning.

“This is another deliberate strike on civilian facilities supplying people with fuel and essential goods,” wrote CEO Bohdan Kukura on social media.

“There is no military purpose in such attacks. It is terror against civilians,” added B. Kukura.

The strikes on gas stations came after Russia shelled Kyiv for several weeks with a new type of faster jet drones, which, among other things, attacked logistics centers, warehouses, and commercial supply chains.

These devices fly at speeds of up to 600 km/h, making it harder for Ukraine’s air defense to intercept them.

“The main goal of these strikes is to paralyze economic activity and make any deliveries anywhere very difficult,” Kyiv Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Institute war expert Ihor Kozii told local television.
