The accident occurred on Thursday at 16:45 local time (17:45 Lithuanian time) between the municipalities of Susch and Zernez in the far eastern canton of Graubünden.

The bus “went off the road in a construction zone and overturned,” according to a statement from the Graubünden police, adding that “five of the 45 adults on board died.”
Three people were also seriously injured, and 37 others suffered moderate or minor injuries, the police said, adding that an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the accident.
The Dutch travel agencies federation (ANVR) told the AFP news agency that the bus belonged to the travel company “Oad” and that all passengers were from the Netherlands.

According to ANVR, the bus left the Netherlands on Monday and was carrying tourists on a one-day trip from Austria to Switzerland at the time of the accident.
“Oad” said in a statement that it is “deeply shocked and devastated by the tragic accident.”
Zernez is the entry point for visitors to the Swiss National Park – a vast Alpine reserve covering more than 100 sq km in the mountainous Engadin valley.
