On Wednesday, police officers who responded to a call at a shopping center in Kaunas were handed over a young man caught stealing by security staff. He was a foreigner and could not provide documents confirming his identity, citizenship, and legal stay in Lithuania, so he was taken to Kaunas airport and handed over to the officers of the Migration Department of the Vilnius Border Unit of VSAT.

After questioning the detained foreigner, who had no identity documents, and conducting a check, border guards found a very poor quality photo of a 24-year-old Algerian citizen’s passport on his phone.
The African explained that about two or three years ago he illegally arrived in Italy by boat, after a week he went to France, where he stayed for about two years. Later, he traveled by train from France to Germany, and from there to Poland. After a few days, he reached Kaunas by bus from Warsaw.
This last route of the Algerian was confirmed by a digital bus ticket for a night trip found on his phone.

The illegal migrant told the border guards that the purpose of his journey in Europe was supposedly Finland, where he has a girlfriend.
On the same day, the Algerian citizen, who allegedly was traveling to Finland but was caught stealing in a store in Lithuania, was handed over by VSAT officers to the border guards of the neighboring country at the cooperation center of the Polish border, customs, and police services in Budzisko (Podlaskie Voivodeship, right at the Lithuanian border), based on the agreement signed between Lithuania and Poland on the transfer and acceptance of persons.
