In the quarterfinal stage of the men’s singles tournament taking place in Istanbul, the 22-year-old from Klaipėda unexpectedly lost 3:6, 4:6 to the Brit Max Basinger (ATP-254).
After losing his serve once in both sets, E. Butvilas created only one break point chance, which he did not take advantage of.
The Lithuanian tennis team representative was more solid on first serves (72% of points won compared to the opponent’s 70%), but weak second serves (45% compared to the opponent’s 64%) significantly hindered him.
For the 23-year-old Brit, this will be only the second career “Challenger” tournament semifinal. This year he also shone at the Wimbledon Championships on grass, where he successfully passed three qualifying rounds.
