S. Damulevičius climbed the highest peak in the world – Everest – without supplemental oxygen and Sherpa assistance. Fewer than 200 climbers have ascended Everest without supplemental oxygen, and no Lithuanian has done so.

A wise decision was made.
T. Jeršovas wrote on social media: “Saulius Damulevičius turned back in the morning at about 8400 m altitude; judging by the pace, it was clear he wouldn’t make it up and down safely in time – a wise decision was made. He is descending quickly; at 08:10 Lithuanian time, he was at 8209 m. He needs to descend at least to Camp 2 today, as he has stayed too long in the 8000 m zone.”
Later, T. Jeršovas provided additional information about S. Damulevičius.
“On May 27, at 14:15 Lithuanian time, 18:00 Nepal time. The sun sets today at Everest Base Camp around 18:46, but in reality, it disappears behind the high mountains earlier – it gets dark and cold earlier.

Saulius Damulevičius is warmly inside the tent at C4; it is snowing now, but according to the forecast, it should stop snowing, then he will descend to C3. Better to reach C2, but at least to C3. We are arranging various logistics options with Saulius and contacts below, depending on health condition and weather.

As I know from before, Saulius’s tent was heavily damaged by wind while climbing up to C3, and then additionally at C4. He had two storm MSR tents; I have no information where the second one is – if at EBC, he needs to have a place to sleep/rest before descending to C2 or C3. If you arrive and there is nowhere to stay – frostbite is guaranteed at minimum,” added T. Jeršovas.

We remind that S. Damulevičius is the first Lithuanian to have climbed K2 and Gasherbrum I.
