D. Trump conceived of a $400 million ballroom annex to the White House, aiming to leave a physical mark on the US capital during his second term.
Rodney Mims Cook Jr., chairman of the US Commission of Fine Arts, tasked with leading the ballroom project, was sent this week to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum – a conference once dubbed “Russia’s Davos”.
R. M. Cook stated that he has been visiting the former imperial capital for 30 years.
He was asked if the city’s architecture – magnificent palaces with facades facing the river embankment and vast museums and galleries – served as a model for D. Trump’s ballroom project.

“The ballrooms of St. Petersburg have inspired me throughout my life; I have worked extensively in your cathedrals and palaces,” he explained. “So the answer is yes.”
R. M. Cook, speaking minutes after V. Putin vowed to continue the more than four-year-long offensive against Ukraine until Russia’s war goals are achieved, also conveyed greetings from the US president.
“I convey sincere greetings from your friend, President Trump,” he told V. Putin.
